METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING DISCONTINUITY AND SHOCK WAVE IN THE SOLAR WIND
Shock in the solar wind occurs when supersonic stream comes into subsonic stream. In the interplanetary space theparticles speeds of solar wind are super-Alfvenic. When the solar stream reaches Earth’s magnetic field it will be decelerated.Recently there are many satellites which have been launched to observe the parameters of solar wind such as speed, density,temperature and interplanetary magnetic field. In this study we used the data of solar wind recorded by ACE (Advanced SatelliteExplorer) satellite to indentify type of shock in the solar wind. Understanding on the type of shock is very important to study theeffect of interaction between solar wind and Earth’s magnetosfer. The shock in the solar wind is associated with the change of itsdensity and plasma pressure, temperature, velocity and interplanetary magnetic field. The changing of solar wind parameters if itis combined with magnetohydrodynamic fundamental mode cause various shocks or discontinuity in the solar wind. In this paperwe derived the methods to identify shock or discontinuity in the solar wind. We also give two examples how two identify theshock of solar wind.
